Helpful Contracting Terms

Regardless if you are doing a new build or a remodel there are a couple terms that tradesmen throw around that can be helpful to understand. These terms are Rough In & Trim out.

Rough In refers to the work and materials that needs to happen before we can close up walls and ceilings. This would include framing walls or details before drywall, installing light/outlet boxes (not the lights or outlets themselves), running wires, running the water lines, installing valves for tub/showers, installing drain lines, running the ducting for the HVAC, running gas lines to the appliance locations. All of these things need to happen before we start closing up walls and once they are done we get to move on to the Trim Out stage.

Trim Out refers to the installation of the fixtures that will be seen or used at the end of the project. This will include your outlets, faucets, appliances, HVAC registers (metal vent cover), tubs, lights, etc.

As terms come up during a build we always want to encourage clients to ask for clarification so they feel informed and understand what the process looks like.

If you know anyone in the Phoenix area looking to remodel their kitchen or bathroom we would appreciate if you would send them our info.
